TOP 10 of Twenty-Oh-Seven
hey whats upp?!? its your bff dan! i am now writing/typing practically about my albums of 2007. it took me a week through the new year of 2008, (and happy new year to all of those that i didnt talk to), and one long plane ride for me to figure out my top 10 albums that i have of twenty-ohh-seven. sooo lets start, shall we?
EDIT: Now i had all night to think about what i truly wrote here, and im gonna give some honorable mentions to the following albums and maybe add one in, take one out of my top 10.
first lets start with the honorable mentions.
Lupe Fiasco - The Cool
Radiohead - In Rainbows
The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus - Don't You Fake It
Say Anything - In Defense of the Genre
Angeles and Airwaves - I-Empire
Treaty of Paris - Sweet Dreams, Sucker
NUMBER 10: Armor For Sleep - Smile For Them
I picked this album because theyre a upcoming band that many people should know about. if you say "well dan is a dumbass and doesnt know that they had an album prior to this, what to do when you are dead, and theyre not upcoming" well sir/madam, many people off the street do not know about armor. they co-headlined/opened for The Academy Is... on the Sleeping With Giants tour in the fall, and that is what made me like this album.

NUMBER 10: Fall Out Boy - Infinity On High
ok i really had second thoughts about this album. ioh came out early february and fob did a great job promoting it. the day of the release, fob played in new york, chicago, and los angeles, all in one day on a trip called Flight 206. this gave the OCKs a chance to go to a cd release show by means of winning tickets via the ock website. fans were also treated to a special valentines day show the following week at chicagos Metro. fob played very few of thier new tracks only due to that thier album just released the week before and they 1. dont know how to play it live to exact fan requirements and 2. that they dont wanna play songs that people wont like/know. in june fob came back to chicago more prepared than ever. they layed out many new tracks from ioh. this album is really good, every track is a winner for me. if you are a hardcore fob fan, you could agree to that. fob has great lyrics and fun pop/punk riffs that make anyone like thier music. great job from hometown boys.

NUMBER 9: The Jonas Brothers - S/T
okay wow. i never thought that i would like a kids/pop album so much. this is a really good album because its more of a rock band type with kids/pop flair added. this album is good to listen to when you have little kids around, like babysitting or maybe a family party, because everyone like music that comes from disney. some of my friends saw jonas at the end of two-oh-seven and they really liked em a lot, so props to you for making me download and take a listen to some jonas brothers.
DOWNLOAD: S.O.S., That's Just The Way We Roll, Still In Love With You
NUMBER 8: Kanye West - Graduation
alright. this is a good album from one man named kanye west, from the chi. i really enjoyed this album with all of the swizz beats and integration of daft punk in stronger. with stronger being the single off of graduation, it tends to get over played. thats why the other songs are there. with the collaboration with chris martin of coldplay and rappin about kanyes hometown of chicago, to john mayer and talking about some 'bittersweet' relationships, this album also features hardcore rap and r&b artists like t-pain, lil wayne, and mos def. what made me get this album was the countless hits from kanye on his previous albums.
DOWNLOAD: The Glory, Champion, Homecoming
NUMBER 7: Mayday Parade - A Lesson In Romantics
i have two words you should remember. mayday parade. this band i like because they have a different approach on the music they present you with. they mix two vocals with a more rock/punk type feel of guitars. with the two vocals brings more melody based lyrics. not only does mayday bring a rock/punk guitar to the mix they also have a song with just piano, miserable at best. this is a really emotional song and very meaningful. what made me listen to mayday would be warped tour, i saw their tent and i thought... look them up later they seem good.
DOWNLOAD: Jersey, Walk on Water or Drown, Champagne's For Celebrating (I'll Have A Martini)
NUMBER 6: Four Year Strong - Rise Or Die Trying
now this is a gooood album. i really found fys out of luck and they had a demo of heroes get rememberd on their myspace. i quickly added them as a friend and wanted to learn more about these guys from massachusetts. well the next thing you know they released rise or die trying and i caught a listen of a few tracks.. fell in love with it. four year strong has no category of music that you could classify them as. they have a synth-master and hard crunchy guitar mixed with dual vox and also some gang vocals. the drums are very fast with some double bass if you get lucky. :) what made me get this album is their song heroes get remebered, legends never die. theyre the next big thing. (as pauly shore would say)
DOWNLOAD: Heroes Get Remembered, Legends Never Die; Catastrophe, Bada Bing! Wit A Pipe!
NUMBER 5: Powerspace - The Kicks Of Passion
okay i was hesitating on where to put this. powerspace has been one of my favorite bands ever since ive seen them on dec 23 06. theyre really cool guys and many of the songs were very familliar to me. on their demo ep they recorded five songs. almost if not all of those tracks made it to the final version of tkop and were very much improved. right on right now is the single, and thier most popular songs. it is very catchy along with thier other songs, incorporating fast guitar solos and a lot of synth. they will be big in the future.

NUMBER 4: The Academy Is... - Santi
the academy is... is one class act. they are all great people and play great music. now there was one problem with this album that i had. you have to listen to it numerous times for one to enjoy it. with some of the singles, big mess and neighbors, you could easily like the track with a *snap*. but with some of the other songs that have a little more meaning like, seed and bulls in brooklyn and everything we had, it takes more time for you to actually like it. the academy headlined the sleeping with giants tour in the fall and hope to bring out more santi on the 2008 warped tour.

NUMBER 3: All Time Low - So Wrong, Its Right
way to start off a career. all time low is a young band coming out of the east coast and straight out of high school. these dudes have a mentality to that of a young blink-182, with their side jokes, which coincidentally is their favorite band. atl started with an ep that many people enjoyed, and then demanded them to release a full length. all time low then went on the 2007 warped tour recording inbetween and due with a release at the end of warped in september for their new album. the first 'single' as some might call it, dear maria, was very popular when they released it on thier myspace in early summer. they played warped all summer and whipped out new tracks, let it roll and six feet, wich fans of atl enjoyed even more. other tracks include a more intimate song of a lost girl in remembering sunday. also a fun track that they love to play would include stay awake. this is my favorite song by them and i hope in the future that they will become a more house-hold name.
DOWNLOAD: Dear Maria, Count Me In; Remembering Sunday, Stay Awake (Dreams Only Last For A Night)
NUMBER 2: Cobra Starship - ¡Viva La Cobra!
this is suchhhhh a good album. this, i think, is way better. viva is a follow up to their freshman album of, while the city sleeps and packs more of a cobra punch. they incorporate gabes spanish influences within songs like, smile for the papparazzi. other songs have more of a r&b/rap kinda feel with, Kiss my sass and my moves are white. cobra also adds a synth flair into thier songs with the help of the lovely vicky-t on the keytar. look for these guys in 2008, theyre gonna be huge.
DOWNLOAD: City Is At War, Kiss My Sass, Guilty Pleasure
NUMBER 1: Paramore - Riot!
now this was a definate choice for me, that i made just this morning. i listend to this album non stop like three times through. EVERY track on this album is very good and all could be considered singles. they open up riot! with a punchy, in your face song entitled, for a pessimist im pretty optimistic. the next song still has the heavy guitar, but tones it down a bit and has more of a true meaning with the song, thats what you get. now paramore desided to slow it down a bit with the next song, hallelujah, and this song is very, i guess you can say, romantic song, i think, but its deffinately a keeper. now what comes next would be thier single, misery business, which was featured all over MTV for shows like The Hills in their commercials, this is a really good song with awesome 'woahhh';s from hayley and really killer gutiar riffs in between the chorus and bridge. with a more slower approach and more clean guitar, paramore lays out 'when it rains' , 'let the flames begin' and 'miracle'. all of these are verrrry good tracks with great guitar work from zac and jeremy. especially in miracle, hayleys voice is very very well performed. the next song would be 'crushcrushcrush', their newest single. this song leads off very quitet, then when the chourus hits, its a punch in the face with the heavy guitar and drum beats. this is my favorite track on the record. next leads to a very depressing song, we are broken.. with more of a piano touch to it. after leads to Fences, which has a jumpy feel with the guitar and vocal combo. and finally paramore ends with, born for this, a track they had help with from their fans. in the track there are 'gang vocals' from hardcore fans that got to meet and sing on this album. very good track indeed along with my favorite album of 2007.
DOWNLOAD: THE WHOLE THING!
this took me an extra week to pile up, because i was thinking of doing one but then scratched it. the plane ride home made me decide that i really wanted to do this and show that there is good music out there.
peace! im outta here!
